Carey Freyman is sensitive, gentle and knowledgeable about yoga for children with special needs.

Discovery of special yoga

I first learned of Sonia Sumar ten years ago when I was teaching adult hatha yoga classes to a group of therapists at Easter Seals. I was teaching physical, occupational, and speech therapists who were exhausted at the end of the day and needed their own yoga. They suggested to me one evening that I look into a program called Yoga for the Special Child®. They definitely saw firsthand the need to  have special needs yoga classes for children.

I remember being excited on my way home and thought to myself, “Of course! Yoga for everybody!” The little hairs on my arms and head stood up and I felt passionate about something again. I began the Yoga for the Special Child® certification process in 2004 and fell in love with Sonia and her program instantly.

10 years practicing special yoga

Over the past ten years, I have dedicated myself to compassionately serving children with special needs. What I have ultimately learned is through working with the children, they are teaching me as much or more than I am teaching them.

A message to my beloved students

My greatest hope and wish for each of you, is that through your yoga practice, you attain your highest potential and experience true health, happiness, and well-being. Remember always that you are peace…joy…love…& light.
